Marwari wedding card matter

Rajasthani wedding card wording, in English

What to write on your wedding card — whole wordings to copy, a line for every ceremony, and each word on the card explained.

A Rajasthani wedding card often opens with Shri Ganesh and Shubh Vivah or Mangal Parinay, welcomes guests with "Padharo sa", names the groom (Chi.) and the bride (Sau. Kan.) with their parents, gives the nikasi and phere times and the venue, and ends with the family's names. Six wordings below are ready to copy.

How a Rajasthani wedding card reads, top to bottom

  1. An opening blessing

Optional. A line to Shri Ganesh at the very top.

  2. Shubh Vivah or Mangal Parinay

The heading: "auspicious wedding", or "auspicious union".

  3. Padharo sa

The welcome: with the blessings of the elders, the family invites you — saparivar, with your whole family.

  4. The bride and groom

Chi. before the groom's name, Sau. Kan. before the bride's, with whose son and daughter they are.

  5. The date and the muhurat

The day and date, the nikasi, and the time of the phere.

  6. The venue, and the way there

The haveli, palace or garden — and for a destination wedding, how guests get there and where they stay.

  7. The other ceremonies

Ganesh sthapana, mayra, pithi, mehendi, mahila sangeet and preetibhoj — each with its day, time and place.

  8. The names at the foot

Vineet, the Darshanabhilashi, and a baal manuhar from the children.

An opening line, if you wish

Most Rajasthani cards begin with a line to Shri Ganesh above Shubh Vivah or Mangal Parinay; some begin with the heading alone. Every wording below works either way.

  • To Shri Ganesh

    || Shri Ganeshaya Namah ||

  • The Vakratunda shloka

    || Vakratunda Mahakaya Suryakoti Samaprabha Nirvighnam Kuru Me Deva Sarva Karyeshu Sarvada ||

  • Without a deity's name

    || Shubh Vivah ||

Before you print or send

  1. Give travel and stay for a destination wedding

Udaipur, Jaipur and Jodhpur weddings draw family from far away. Say where they stay, how they get there — boats, pick-ups — and who to call.

  2. Give the nikasi and phere times

The evening is long. Guests who know when the phere begin can plan for elders and small children.

  3. Name the mayra family with care

The mama's family is honoured at the wedding. Check their names with the mother before you print.

  4. Check every name with both families

The spellings, the titles, and who is named at the foot. Ask the eldest in each family.

  5. Keep the card itself to the wedding

The Ganesh sthapana, mayra, pithi and sangeet can each have a line, or a page of their own.

Questions families ask

What is written on a Rajasthani wedding card?

Often: an optional line to Shri Ganesh, Shubh Vivah or Mangal Parinay, "Padharo sa" with the elders' blessings, the groom (Chi.) and the bride (Sau. Kan.) with their parents, the nikasi and phere times, the venue, and the family's names at the foot.

What does Padharo sa mean?

"Please come" — the warm Rajasthani welcome. Sa is a respectful word, as in Bapu sa or Kaki sa.

What is the mayra?

Also called bhaat: the bride's or groom's maternal uncles and their family arrive with gifts for the wedding, and are welcomed with songs. Many cards give it its own line.

How do we add travel details for a destination wedding?

Give the wedding its note — "Boats leave Rameshwar Ghat from 5:00 pm" — and in Invitetale, put the stay, parking and family to call in Good to know.

Can we send the wedding card on WhatsApp?

Yes. With Invitetale it is a link unsealed like a royal farman, with each family's name and every ceremony, its time, place and a map. Free to try; ₹1,999 once to send.
