Sending it on WhatsApp
How to send your wedding invitation on WhatsApp
One by one, to a broadcast list or to a group — what each is good for, and how to reach every family by name.
Updated
Send each family its own message with your invitation's link, greeting them by name — it reads as an invitation, not a forward. To reach many people at once, use a WhatsApp broadcast list: up to 256 contacts, each getting it as a private message, but only if they have saved your number. Keep groups for friends.
Three ways to send it
Each reaches people differently — and WhatsApp gives each its own limits.
-
One by one
- Best for
- Elders, close family, and anyone you would have visited with a card.
- How it arrives
- In their own chat, from you — with their name in it, if you write it.
- Who sees whom
- Only them.
- Limits
- None, though it takes a minute a family. Forwarding one message reaches at most five chats at a time.
-
A broadcast list
- Best for
- Many families at once, when each should still get it privately.
- How it arrives
- As a private message from you in each person's chats; their replies come to you alone.
- Who sees whom
- Only them — nobody sees who else was on the list.
- Limits
- Up to 256 contacts a list, and as many lists as you like. It reaches only people who have saved your number. On the phone app only, not on a computer. A monthly broadcast limit is coming in some countries.
-
A group
- Best for
- A friends' circle or a family group that already exists.
- How it arrives
- In the group, for everyone at once.
- Who sees whom
- Everyone sees everyone — and every reply.
- Limits
- Up to 1,024 members. It reads as news rather than an invitation, and every reply reaches every phone.
WhatsApp’s limits are from its own Help Center — broadcast lists, forwarding limits and groups — checked .
Step by step: a broadcast list
To send many families the same message, each in their own chat.
Start a list
On Android: in Chats, open the ⋮ menu, then Broadcast lists, and start a new one. On iPhone: Settings (or your profile picture), then Broadcast messages, then New List.
Choose who is on it
Up to 256 contacts. Make one list for each side of the family, or for friends and colleagues, and name them.
Write the message, link last
Put the invitation's link on its own line at the end, so WhatsApp shows its picture.
Send — then catch who missed it
Anyone who hasn't saved your number won't get it: send theirs one by one, or ask them to save your number.
WhatsApp’s menus change now and then — its own page has the latest steps for your phone.
Every family by name
With Invitetale’s guest list, each family gets its own message and its own link — without typing either.
Add your families
One at a time, or paste your whole list at once: each family's name and WhatsApp number.
Write your message once
Your own words or ours — each family's name and their own link are filled in for them.
Tap Send on WhatsApp
Once your invitation is published, WhatsApp opens on each family's chat with their message and their link already written. You press send — one tap a family.
See who has opened it
The list marks each family you have sent, and shows which have opened their invitation, and when.
The words to send: wedding invitation messages for WhatsApp, for family, friends and colleagues.
Who gets which
- The elders
- A call first, then their own message and link, one by one.
- Family, near and far
- One by one, or a broadcast list of family who have your number. Family abroad first — they have travel to book.
- Friends
- Their group is fine — or a broadcast list, if they are in different circles.
- Colleagues
- A short message in the team chat, and one by one to the colleagues you are close to.
Before you send
Send it to yourself first
WhatsApp lets you message your own number. Open the link there, and check the picture and the words before anyone else sees them.
A link, not a heavy file
A PDF or a video has to download before it can be seen, and fills the phone. A link opens at once on any phone — and if a time or a venue changes, the same link shows the new one.
A fresh message, not a forward
A message that has passed through five or more chats is marked "Forwarded many times", and can then go to only one chat at a time. A message of your own to each family never looks like a chain message.
Your status, for a reminder
A status post reaches only contacts who have each other's numbers saved, and goes after 24 hours — good for a reminder a week before, not for the invitation itself.
What goes on the card itself: wedding invitation wording, by tradition.
Every family, its own link
With Invitetale, each family’s invitation opens with their name on it, in a design drawn from your tradition’s own art — and your guest list opens WhatsApp with their message ready.

Questions families ask
How do I send a wedding invitation to many contacts at once on WhatsApp?
Use a broadcast list: up to 256 contacts each, and as many lists as you need. Each person gets it as a private message from you. It only reaches people who have saved your number, so send the rest one by one.
Why didn't some people get my broadcast?
A broadcast only reaches people who have saved your number in their phone's contacts. Ask them to save it, or send them the invitation on its own.
Can I send the invitation in a WhatsApp group?
Yes, to a friends' group or a family group that already exists. Everyone there sees everyone else and every reply, so send the elders and the families you are inviting by name their own message.
Should I send a PDF, a video or a link?
A link. It opens at once without filling the phone, shows a picture in the chat, and if a time or a venue changes, the same link shows the new one — a PDF or a video already sent can't change.
How do I send each family its own invitation without typing it every time?
Write your message once. With Invitetale, your guest list fills in each family's name and their own link, and opens WhatsApp ready to send — one tap a family. Free to try; ₹1,999 once to send.
